Its the rubber game tonight as this American League Central showdown between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians reaches its conclusion. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05ET in Progressive Field.

The series began on Tuesday night with Cleveland hoping to gain some ground on Detroit who precedes them in the A.L. Central standings. They were able to make up some space in game one, with a hard fought 3-2 victory.

The winning run was tallied on, of all things, a squeeze play. Aaron Cunningham, hitting all of .175 for the Indians put down a bunt while Lou Marson, pinch running for Travis Hafner, streaked safely for the plate.

The Tigers had just tied the score during the top of the inning when Miguel Cabrera hit a 2 run roundtripper. Cleveland’s other 2 runs crossed the plate on singles by Johnny Damon in the 2nd inning and Carlos Santana in the fourth.

Yesterday, in game two of the set, Detroit scored 3 runs in the first two innings and held on to prevail 5-3. Much of the credit for this win must go to Max Scherzer who has been solid on the mound for Detroit all season. He held the Indians to 2 runs over seven innings, both as a result of Casey Kotchmans tenth home run.

He allowed just 3 hits total, while fanning 8. He did give up 4 walks. Travis Hafner hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth for the Indians third and final run.

Cleveland (49-49) trails both today’s opponent by 4 games along with the Chicago White Sox who share the AL Central lead with Detroit. They have won just 4 of their last 6 and are 26-25 at home.

As mentioned, Detroit (53-45) is in a first place tie with Chicago entering todays action. They are 8-2 in their last 10 and 25-24 away from Motown.

The Tigers ace righthander Justin Verlander (11-5, 2.42 ERA) takes the hill tonight versus another righty, Zach McAllister (4-2, 3.21 ERA) for the Indians.

Detroit is a prohibitive MLB gambling road favorite at -$170, and Detroit is +$155. The over/under is 7.5 total runs on a $125/$100 moneyline.
